Selecting the Correct Size Thermal Platform (Hot/Cold Plate)

Sizing Thermal Platforms (Hot/Cold Plates)

Sizing a platform is partially dependant on how sensitive your test or DUT (device under test) is to temperature gradients.  Hot/Cold plates transfer heat through conduction from the platform surface. Temperature uniformity of the plate is achieved partially through the aluminum mass of the plate.  Sigma uses heavy solid mass Aluminum billet for the production of our plates which helps to insure uniform temperatures across the plates surface.  Improved uniformity will be achieved if the outside 1" or so of the plate is not used. Therefore select a plate whose surface is at least as large as your DUT. If a minimal amount of gradient is desired - select a plate that allows a minimum of 1" all the way around your DUT.

Compact Design
Sigma Systems is sensitive to the value of your production or research work space. Whether it is the crowded floor space of a production area or the precious confines of a work bench, we are aware of the cost associated with bulky or cumbersome test devices. That is why we utilize the most efficient materials for the insulation in the walls of our plate and design our control and service cavities to be compact. Our expertise has resulted in the greatest plate working area to total component footprint in the business. No longer is it necessary to take up valuable production room with bulky or cumbersome thick walled platforms. Sigma Systems can provide you with more throughput per square foot without sacrificing efficiency.
